Meet the hosts

Heather Winklepleck

Heather has over twenty-two years of experience in consultation, program development, facilitation, planning and implementing community-based approaches for substance abuse prevention. Additionally she has assisted organizations and communities in coalition building; community mobilization and development; organizational development; effective implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies, programs and practices; and evaluation design. Heather holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Fort Hays State University in collaboration with Kansas State University. In addition, she was one of the first in the State of Kansas to receive from the Kansas Coalition of Prevention Programs and Services Certification Review Board the licensure of a Certified Prevention Professional, in October 2000. Heather is very passionate about prevention. She lives in Stockton, Kansas with her husband, Dale and two children Lexi and Logan. Heather and her family are avid sports fan that enjoy camping, gardening and any activity that involves the entire family.

Janell Stang, LMSW

Janell is a Prevention Initiatives Specialist with the Prevention team within the Community Engagement Institute at Wichita State University. In this role, she coordinates multiple events for the Kansas Prevention Collaborative, including PreventionWorKS and the annual Kansas Prevention Conference. She is also a co-host for the PreventionTalKS podcast. Janell also serves as the Secretary for the Service Member, Veteran, and Families (SMVF) State Subcommittee under the Governor’s Behavioral Health Services Planning Council. In December 2014, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Newman University in Wichita, KS. She went back to earn her Master’s degree and became licensed in Social Work from Newman University in May 2017.
